What does MERV actually mean on an HVAC filter? 🤔

If you've ever shopped for an HVAC air filter, you've probably seen MERV ratings like MERV 8, MERV 11, or MERV 13. But what do they mean?

MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, and it's the rating system used to measure how effectively an air filter captures airborne particles. In general, the higher the MERV rating, the smaller the particles the filter can trap.
