Plant Tip Tuesday! 🌿

Your garden is still growing strong, but August is when a few common pests can start causing trouble. Catching them early can help prevent serious damage!

Watch for:
🍃 Japanese beetles – Skeletonized leaves and chewed flowers.
🕸️ Spider mites – Fine webbing and tiny yellow or speckled leaves, especially during hot, dry weather.
🍅 Tomato hornworms – Large green caterpillars that can strip tomato plants almost overnight.
🌱 Aphids – Small clusters of insects on new growth that leave behind sticky residue and curled leaves.

Take a few minutes each week to inspect the tops and undersides of leaves. The sooner you spot a problem, the easier it is to manage!

Plant Tip Tuesday 🌿

Watch for powdery mildew! Powdery mildew often appears as a white coating on leaves during humid weather.

To help prevent powdery mildew:
🌱 Improve airflow around plants.
🌱 Water at the base rather than overhead.
🌱 Remove heavily infected foliage.

Prevention is much easier than treatment. While a fungicide application will help keep the disease from spreading rapidly, it will not cure already infected areas. Keep an eye on your plants for any signs of disease and stop in with pictures or samples if you need help identifying what is going on!
