Our Saturday morning monthly class starts tomorrow, and there are still a few wheels waiting for people who are curious, nervous, wildly overconfident—or some chaotic combination of all three.

Can’t make Saturdays? Monday night wheel and Wednesday daytime Clay Explorations kick off next week.

You do not need experience.
You do not need to be “artistic.”
You just need to show up willing to make something questionable before you make something great.

Clay is included, weekly open-studio practice is included, and perfection has been politely asked to leave the building.

Happy Monday! 🏺 We are wrapping up this week’s member spotlight with the lovely Anne — and what a joy she is to have in the studio.

Anne is special. She booked a studio tour before we had even officially opened our doors! After taking classes and getting her hands dirty, she decided to go all in this month and sign up as a full member.

Whether she is handbuilding at the slab table or throwing on the wheel, Anne brings such care to her work. From her beautiful tall amber vase to those tiny, perfect herb garden stakes (rosemary, basil, oregano, parsley!), you can see her creativity taking shape in every piece.

She even brought her grandson in recently using her member buddy pass, and she had an absolute knack for showing him how to use the wheel. (He was a total natural, by the way!)

But honestly, the best part of having Anne here is her constant smile and the energy she brings. In her own words:

“The studio is my sanctuary from all that is negative! I feel freedom and joy and peace when I enter through the door! I can create whatever I feel like. Katie is an amazing teacher and friend. She is there to help… no pressure ever! Also I love looking at what my fellow members and Katie are creating… so inspiring! ❤️”

Anne, the feeling is completely mutual. Thank you for making this studio such a bright place to be!

Yesterday felt like one of those days that reminds me why I built this studio.

A huge thank-you to Lindsay for including Grit & Grog in the ShoreShot Café grand opening, and to Babes, Brews & Browsing for being the absolute best vendor neighbors to spend the day with.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, asked questions, shared pottery stories, painted something, or simply stood at the table and talked clay with me. I loved meeting so many of you, and I really hope this was only the beginning—I’d love to see your faces in the studio.

And the proudest studio-owner moment of the day: every single member who brought work sold something. Watching people stop, connect with their pieces, and take their work home was such a beautiful thing to witness. I’m wildly proud of what they made and even prouder of the community we’re building together.

Yesterday was clay, coffee, community, and a whole lot of gratitude.

Every time I open a kiln, I’m reminded why I started. 🤍

Not because every piece comes out perfect.

But because every shelf is filled with someone who decided to try.

Tonight is one of my favorite nights at the studio—we’re unloading this kiln together during Open Studio. Members will be there celebrating wins, laughing over surprises, and seeing their work for the first time.

Happy Monday! 🏺 This week we are shining the spotlight on Becki — and honestly, where do we even begin.

Becki has taken classes at other studios in the area, but she has really found her home here at Grit & Grog. Since joining in April, it has been incredible to watch her passion for pottery grow week by week. She shows up, she puts in the work, and it absolutely shows in everything she makes.

Her glazing style is distinctly Scandinavian — clean lines, bold color blocking, and a quiet confidence that makes every piece feel intentional. That cobalt and white spoon rest? That heart bowl with the pink rim? Unmistakably Becki.

And then there is the Is It A Mug Club — a running studio joke that Becki herself founded. The pink cup and the brown drip vessel are absolutely not mugs (we love them anyway), but that gorgeous green one? That was her first official "yes, it IS a mug" moment, and we were all there to celebrate it.

Her smile lights up the studio every single time she walks in, and we are so glad she is here.

In her own words:

"When I started as a student, clay was included in the class price which meant I could fail without guilt. No money wasted, just learning. That freedom is why I didn't give up after my first failed wonky pot and how I learned to trust the process.

This studio became my third space — that place outside of home and work where you actually feel like you belong. After two years away from photography, my creative outlet for 15+ years, I needed somewhere I could make things, be part of a community, and come alive.

It's not just about the pottery. It's the people, the inside jokes, and a space where messing up is part of the magic. That's what I love about this studio."

Concrete floors are rude. SickFit understood the assignment.

I spend stupid-long days on my feet in the studio, and is genuinely the only sock brand I reach for.

Paden and I met when we were both pitching at Warrior Rising, and we’ve been friends ever since. Her mission got me to try SickFit. The socks are why I keep buying them.

When I opened the studio, I bought every member a pair. Now I have a pair for every job, because apparently even my socks have assigned duties.

There’s a quiet beauty in the cycle of creation, and today, that cycle is all about reclaim! Every single one of those ambitious first attempts, those wobbly pots, and those creative experiments are getting a second life. They’re being mixed, processed, and transformed into the fresh, ready-to-mold clay for next week’s classes. It’s a powerful reminder that in pottery (and in life!), every
beginning starts with a little bit of letting go and a whole lot of potential.

We love this process because it embodies our philosophy: it’s not about perfection, it’s about the journey, the learning, and the endless possibilities that clay offers. Plus, it’s incredibly satisfying to see all that clay get ready for its next adventure!
