WHEN A TEXT GROUP IS NOT REALLY ONE GROUP
The group does not exist as one permanent object. It exists as several conversation threads built from different participant lists.
When someone leaves an SMS/RCS conversation, a new thread may form without removing the older one. Later, someone can reply through an older conversation and bring that participant list back into use.
The people may believe they are returning to βthe group,β but they may actually be reopening a different thread with a different set of members.
That is why a text group can appear to split, disappear, and come back.
