Here is a few I’ve done lately

There was definitely a learning curve involved this morning.

The current was pulling hard to the west, the water was dirty, and temperatures were noticeably cooler than the last few days.

Once the sun came up, I spotted about half a dozen rips, but I could not keep a lure in front of them. The current was ripping everything down the beach too fast.

So I made an adjustment.

I bumped up from a 1 oz Strike One Lure to a 1.5 oz, 30lb Frisky Fins leader, threw hard to the east, and let the current carry the lure back into the rip.

That is where I found the fish.

Once hooked up, I was fighting both the bluefish and the current, but the little 3000 series Alloy S handled it with no problem. With a 26 lb drag rating, it had plenty of power to get these fish to the sand even with everything stacked against me.

That is what lure casting from the beach is all about: reading the conditions, making adjustments, and putting the lure where the fish are.

Stop by the shop or shoot us an email if you want help building a dialed-in Gulf Coast lure-casting setup.

Such a fun way to surf fish.
