Come out and celebrate a brand new pedestrian traffic signal at the HAWK Launch Party, with City of Alamogordo and Alamogordo MainStreet, on Saturday, August 8, 2026 from 4 pm to 8 pm in the downtown area, at E 10th Street and New York Avenue!

The High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk (HAWK) is a first-of-its-kind for Alamogordo:

🚦The lights will be dark, allowing drivers to pass. When the push button is activated, flashing yellow lights will be followed by a steady yellow, then solid red.

Drivers stop on red, just like a stop sign. The lights will then flash red. Vehicles must stop and may proceed with caution if there are no pedestrians in the intersection. When the lights go dark and the crossing is clear, drivers can proceed. 🚦

This signal is known as a Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) designed to enhance the safety of pedestrians and visitors in the downtown area.

🚧 New York Avenue from 9th Street to 10th Street, as well as 10th Street from Delaware Avenue to the vicinity of the crossing, will be closed from 1 pm to 10 pm for this event. 🚧
