Photo shoot with a very large groundhog. This guy was found posing near where a red fox family lived last year.
Did you know groundhogs are also called woodchucks and they are the largest member of the squirrel family? Their teeth never stop growing and they have very good vision. They would rather flee than fight and they are true hibernators and have burrows that can be up to 30 feet long.

On 6.20.26 my neighbor, John, told me a baby raccoon was in his tree, so of course I grabbed my camera. So cute and so small. A 2nd baby was identified by my neighbor. John watched them through the day and into the night. Mamma raccoon was not seen. John said one of the babies fell a distance while climbing and he wasn't sure if he was ok. We checked them out and both were moving fine and were hiding under a tarp. Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center was contacted and they asked to have the babies brought to them since they reported it is not normal for them to not be with their mom. They said mom is always around. They reported something may have happened to mom or the babies wandered off. The 4th picture was taken with my cell phone after I put them in a box to be taken to the rehabilitation center for evaluation. You can really see how small they are. When I handed them over, I heard someone say, "raccoon formula stat." I called the rehabilitation center today and they provided an update saying they are doing well. Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center thank you for what you do to assist our wildlife. (I wore gloves when handling these babies.)

I checked back on our Red-shouldered hawk babies that we have been following and they have fledged as they are no longer in the nest. I will keep an eye out for them hunting. It was while looking up for birds, I found this eastern bluebird and then the red fox crossed my path for yesterday's post. The gray catbird posed nicely in the flowering bush. There is so much to see just going for a walk and looking around.

6.11.26 Another check on the baby red-shouldered hawks. First picture: They look like they will be fledging soon. They appear to be the same size. In the last post about them, one appeared larger. 2nd picture: Dad out hunting. I think it's dad since he appears smaller. The female is larger.

6.9.26 I saw this baby groundhog come out of a den. He saw me and ran back in so I stayed quiet and still until he came back out and explored the flowers.
