Wrapped up this fantastic custom built-in today. Solid mahogany countertop, custom-built illuminated shelving with the TV space, and two huge cabinets below give the customers a massive amount of storage. In their own words, “this finally ties the entire room together.” Love to hear that! A beautiful painted finish thanks to Sherwin Williams, not a single visible fastener (out trademark build style), and some serious craftsmanship on that crown scribe to the ceiling. Some builds speak for themselves, but in this case, let me share with you the customer’s text upon seeing the finished product- “OMG!!! I’m dying! Thank you so much, seriously they’re perfect. You’re a genius.” That is what I call some positive feedback. Twin cabinets and shelving, scribed tight to the brick fireplace and fit perfectly to the right wall. Custom lighting controlled by the Lutron Casita remote system, and our signature build style with not a single visible fastener. Huge shout out to Luke and Justin at for their assist with the install; absolute pros! What can Piedmont Woodshop do for you?

There is a particular feeling that you get when you deliver a custom oak bench, position it in front of the sunbeams streaming through the window, and the client says “it looks like it has always been a part of the room!” I’d love to take credit, but it’s really the white oak top, white oak beveled shaker side panels and drawer fronts, and white oak frame that is the star of the show. It’s a fun day when two brand-new screen doors fit perfectly on the first try. Made from quartersawn poplar and finished with outdoor primer and paint, as well as pet screens on the inside, these were a challenging build with such a rewarding outcome. And they look pretty! This was a fun one! Astronomy in Northern Virginia is a big thing, so when this telescope tripod’s little 36” legs weren’t working, the client asked us to make a new set, but 60” long. We went old-school- white oak, cut and chiseled by hand, and oil-rubbed for a fantastic smooth and waterproof finish. Three perfect legs, ad astra! What can Piedmont Woodshop do for you?

Delivered this beautiful drop-wing tabletop build on a refurbished and freshly painted base today. That is rustic walnut from the heart of the Blue Ridge mountains, creatively joined and finished with just a UV cured coat of Clean Armor satin finish. We are proud to show off yet another custom table- this time, a maple coffee bar. The top is butcher block maple with a center walnut stripe, and all of the bottom, including the drawer, solid hard maple. Seen in the photos, some of the photos before finishing shows off the custom legs, carved from solid 3” blanks on our 4th axis CNC! Finished using Rubio Monocoat system of intense black pre color and pure Oil plus 2C on the lower, and honey Oil plus 2C on the counter. Delivered to the customer today, they raved over the style and finish, and we are very proud of such a beautiful piece. What can Piedmont Woodshop do for you?

It has been a minute since we last posted a project, so it’s only fitting that this one, which has been in the works for almost a year, is finally done. What you see here is a king bed frame made out of 200-year-old barn wood, collected by hand from a farm in Bluemont, and then spent months removing literal pounds of nails and other metal from the boards so that we could process them. And by process, I mean “barely touch” because the client wanted all of that character of the saw marks, rough edges, gouges, and dents, which we saved while still squaring up the sides and joining the boards into panels and runners. Finished in a dark provincial stain to match the other bedroom furniture and sealed with Clean Armor UV finish, this is now an heirloom piece of furniture that will last another 200 years or more. There is nothing, and I mean nothing, like old-growth white oak to humble a seasoned woodworker. This was a challenge that was overcome with time and patience. We believe the results speak for themselves. What can Piedmont Woodshop do for you?
