Yesterday we finished the installation of the new Vanguard 363 for Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Saginaw Michigan. Another beautiful 3manual rocker tab console with our walnut rockers, this time with reverse colored wood manuals. The organ is on a 16.2 audio system with the Great and Pedal divisions splitting 8 channels above the altar - and 4 each for the Swell and Choir respectively. The final step in our installation was taking many (dozens) of frequency sweeps and calibrating the equalization to eliminate reflections that eccentuate or absorb frequencies.... you can see from the photos - initially we were seeing as much as a 25db shift from the 40hz to 200hz... and then another huge spike as we climbed up the freq range - this is with the amplifiers and organ eq perfectly flat... and it once again demonstrates how crazy room acoustics change the sound of an organ - in the images - the white flat line is the volume that the signal is being produced at and the colored lines are what volume is being recorded... SO you can imagine or try to imagine what happens when you turn the global volume up or down - you wind up with huge spikes in volume or when you turn it down - things become inaudible - The final image shows how flat we ultimately got it after hours of manipulating the eq at certain frequencies via DSP in the amplifiers or now in the Viscount Editor - and immediately the organ came to life - no more muddiness, no more woofy sounds, or rattles/buzzes etc. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS in every church - some better some worse - yet we are the one of very few if not the only company that takes this level of care and detail in our installations - and you can immediately hear the difference. One of our prized possessions is on display for the hundred year anniversary of the Detroit Detroit Red Wings at the Detroit historical Museum. A few years ago we acquired and restored the original Barton Organ console that was in Olympia from shortly after 1927 until 1964 when it was removed. Plans have always been to finish, restoring the electrical components of the Organ and to let it play again albeit as a digital organ!
