We get asked all the time when lighting should actually enter the conversation. The answer: the sooner, the better. It's not a last-minute finishing touch; it's a process, tied to your framing, your electrical plan, your whole timeline. The earlier we're involved, the more options you actually have.

Ever walk into a room that just feels off, even though everything looks nice? It might not be your furniture... it might be your lighting's color temperature. 💡

Color temperature is measured in Kelvin (K), and the lower the number, the warmer the light. For cozy spaces, living rooms, bedrooms, anywhere you want to relax, stay in the 2700K-3000K range. Cooler light (3500K+) has its place in kitchens and task areas, but it can make a space feel clinical if it sneaks into the wrong room.

The most common mistake? Mixing temperatures in the same space without realizing it. Save this before your next lighting decision. ✨

One question we get a lot: what should I bring to my consultation?

Just replacing a single fixture?
• Measurements - room dimensions and ceiling height
• Photos of your space

Working through a renovation or new build?
• Drawings and floor plans
• We want access to your space before anything gets installed, not after, that's how we plan lighting that actually works with your room.

The more info you bring, the more we can actually do for you in that first appointment. Come prepared, and count on it running a little longer than you'd expect - we like to be thorough. 💡

What you see: a chandelier centered perfectly over a piece of art, warm light falling just right on a staircase you actually want to walk down.

What we see: ceiling heights, sconce placement measured to the inch, wiring plans, dimmer zones, spacing calculated from every wall and stair rail, decided long before a single fixture went up.

The things that go unnoticed by most are the details that make us stand out.

Recessed lighting isn't the fixture anyone falls in love with, but it's the one every project starts with.

It has to be planned before the drywall goes up, tied directly to your ceiling framing and room layout. There's no going back and adding it later without tearing into the ceiling.

Think of it as the foundation layer: functional, ambient, and, once installed, practically invisible. It's not there to be noticed. It's there so everything you add after it has something solid to work with.

One overhead light is not a lighting plan.

The #1 mistake we see is when homeowners pick one beautiful fixture and expect it to do everything. A single source of light almost always leaves a room feeling flat or unevenly lit, even when the fixture itself is gorgeous.

The fix is layering: ambient light for overall brightness, task light for where you actually need it, and accent light for mood and depth. Three layers, working together.
