Independent eye care practices have something large chains can struggle to replicate: the ability to make thoughtful choices for each patient. That same flexibility should extend to your optical lab.

The right lab relationship is about more than filling an Rx. It means having real people you can call when a job is unusual, a frame presents a challenge, or you simply want another set of experienced eyes on an order. Technology keeps changing the optical industry, but knowledgeable, human support still has a lot of value.

👓 Quick question for ECPs: When was the last time a patient asked you why their new lenses feel different from their old pair?

Even small changes in frame shape, lens design, material, or fitting measurements can affect how a new pair feels. Taking an extra minute to explain those differences can make the adjustment period easier and help set the right expectations from day one.

And when a question comes up on the lab side, you can always call Allentown Optical and talk to a real person who understands optics. Because sometimes the fastest way to solve a problem is simply to have a conversation.

🔬 FACT FRIDAY: A progressive lens can contain thousands of unique calculations across its surface to manage power changes, corridor design, and peripheral optics. With today’s freeform lens technology, those calculations can also account for prescription, frame parameters, fitting position, and other variables to optimize the wearer’s visual experience.

It’s a good reminder that what looks like a simple piece of plastic is actually some pretty impressive optical engineering. 👓

When it comes to myopia management, does frame size matter as much as we think?Research presented at the International Myopia Conference looked at children wearing Myopic Peripheral Defocus Lenses (MPDL) and found no significant relationship between frame dimensions and axial length growth over 12 months. The takeaway for ECPs: rather than prioritizing a specific frame size, focus on a comfortable, secure fit that keeps lenses properly positioned and encourages consistent wear.

An interesting read for anyone working with pediatric myopia management.
