The famous archaeological discovery of the marble statue head of Aphrodite took place in Aizanoi, modern-day Turkey (specifically in Kütahya province), rather than modern Greece. While Aizanoi was a major ancient Greek and Roman city, its physical location lies in western Anatolia.

​During excavations along the Penkalas Stream bed in Aizanoi, archaeologists uncovered the remarkably well-preserved marble head of Aphrodite, the ancient Greek goddess of love and beauty, alongside the head of Dionysus, the god of wine.

Waves recently washed away the top layer of sand on a beach in Hawaii and revealed more than two dozen petroglyphs that could date as far back as 1,000 years. Shifting sands showed that a 115-foot stretch of Waianae beach in Oahu is covered with 26 carvings that may have been made by some of Hawaii's very first settlers. These petroglyphs depict humanoid stick figures, with the largest measuring eight feet tall, a possible representation of the legendary folk hero and demigod Maui, who is said to have pulled the Hawaiian Islands up from the ocean's depths using his magic fishhook. An extraordinary discovery in Tibet has revealed a hidden Buddhist library believed to be nearly 950 years old, containing more than 84,000 ancient handwritten manuscripts.

Preserved inside a monastery for centuries, the collection includes religious scriptures, historical records, medical texts and philosophical writings, many of which remain remarkably well preserved and clearly legible. The beautiful 2022 discovery completely provides an incredibly rare, highly vivid glimpse into the ancient wooden artistry that has completely vanished from the rest of the massive Roman Empire.
