Home of Polly Porter and her partner Mary “Molly” Dewson, who was instrumental in Franklin D. Roosevelt's campaigns, utilized Moss Acre as a summer retreat where she, Polly, and other political figures—including Eleanor Roosevelt, would gather to work on social reform and women's rights. The Bourne family (of the New Bedford Bourne’s, a prominent 19th century Whaling family) later took up residency. The Moss Acre estate auction offers a window to nearly 140 years of New England history: Sale will feature heirlooms from all generations of occupants including: early Asian porcelain with focus on an impressive teapot collection, Arts and Crafts, silver, antique furnishings, artwork, Continental, a session of curated books, decorative, Maine related and much more!

1790 N. CAROLINA ACT CIRCULAR SIGNED by HAMILTON

Treasury Department Circular signed by Alexander Hamilton as acting Secretary of the Treasury, dated March 3rd, 1790 notifying state officials of the February 8th, 1790 Act of Congress which extended Federal powers to the state of North Carolina, which had recently ratified their constitution. “Circular Treasury Department March 3rd, 1790Sir, You will receive hereinith an Act of Congress of the 8th of February last entitled ‘An Act for giving effect to the several Acts therein mentioned in respect to the State of North Carolina and other purposes’ which I ? for your governmentI am Sir Your O’bed Servant A. Hamilton” Framed together with (2) engravings of Hamilton and an inscription below “The Hamilton Trust Company from Gordon L. Ford Brooklynn, NY June 8th, 1891”. 17 x 31 1/4 inches overall. Provenance: Gifted to The Hamilton Trust Company by New York City businessman, lawyer & early collector of Americana Gordon L. Ford. The letter hung on the wall until the office was closed and employees were given the chance to take a memento.

ORIGINAL NBC AUDIO RECORDING of JFK ASSASSINATION

Original 1/4 inch reel to reel tape audio recording of Don Pardo’s special first two bulletins and original National coverage broadcast that cut into NBC’s programming to announce the tragic assassination of president John F. Kennedy in Dallas, Texas on November 22nd, 1963. Due to the current technology which caused a lapse between when the button was pressed and the recording actually began, NBC was unable to record this special and historic bulletin. Of the approximately 50 million TV’s in America, only one was recording during this time to capture the moment in history. Also of interest a cassette tape recording of a 1998 phone call over 30 minutes between Don Pardo and Phil Gries who recorded the coverage of Mr. Pardo’s thoughts and emotions as he was announcing everything live as he read it. Included in this lot is a binder containing provenance & documentation of the event, the original tape & Webcor recorder, taped interviews with the consignor, and a framed assemblage of correspondences between Phil Gries (the recorder) and the other main players involved (Library of Congress, Don Pardo, Museum of Television & Radio, Sixth Floor Museum, etc) with this unique moment in time.
