🇺🇸 ITEM SPOTLIGHT: THE AMERICAN SOLDIER OF 1898 🇺🇸

Before camouflage uniforms, MOLLE gear, and modern body armor, the American soldier looked something like this.

This artwork depicts a U.S. soldier from the Spanish-American War era, when the Army was in the middle of a major transition in uniforms, equipment, and military technology.

Fun fact: The Army adopted a khaki tropical uniform in 1898 specifically for overseas service, but production problems meant many troops heading to Cuba were still wearing the older blue uniform

Over 125 years later, pieces like this give us a glimpse of what the American soldier looked like at the dawn of the 20th century
