This Thursday October 15 at 7:00pm at the store, Lise Shapiro Sanders will celebrate the release of her new book, Reading for Pleasure: Working Women and the Popular Romance in Early Twentieth-Century Britain! Join us.

Lise Shapiro Sanders is Professor Emerita of English Literature and Cultural Studies at Hampshire College. She teaches and publishes in the fields of Victorian studies, modernist studies, print media and periodical culture, fashion studies, film studies and early film history, feminist theory, women’s history, and gender studies.

Her most recent book is Reading for Pleasure: Working Women and the Popular Romance in Early Twentieth-Century Britain (Bloomsbury Academic, 2026), which was supported by a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Her articles have appeared in numerous journals and edited collections. She has co-edited special issues of the Journal of Modern Periodical Studies, the International Journal of Fashion Studies, and Women: A Cultural Review, and she serves on the Editorial Collective of Feminist Theory.

Tomorrow Tuesday June 16 at 7:00pm at the store, local author Amy Mittelman will celebrate the release of her new book, Dames, Dishes, and Degrees: Faculty Wives in America.

In Dames, Dishes, and Degrees: Faculty Wives in America, Amy Mittelman reveals what took place behind ivy-covered walls, tracing the origins and evolution of faculty wives’ clubs across American higher education. These organizations brought together highly educated women whose unpaid labor— from hosting dinners and receptions to mentoring young academic wives— quietly sustained universities while also fostering philanthropy, activism, and political engagement.

Mittelman’s lived experience as the wife of a college professor is the underpinning for Dames, Dishes, and Degrees. A resident of Amherst, she holds a Ph.D. in history from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Massachusetts. She is also the author of Brewing Battles: A History of American B**r (2007).

This Thursday June 4 at 7:00pm, local author Don Lesser will read from and talk about his new novel, Crystal Springs.

Set upon the backdrop of lush hills in Western Massachusetts, Crystal Springs is literary fiction about the love of place, the bonds between found families, and the lasting connections between lifelong friends. Steven Bennett is a historian, chef, and programmer in the quaint rural towns of the Pioneer Valley. Rejected by his first love, he marries another woman and lives an ordinary life hosting barbecues and tip-toeing around a past extramarital affair. When Suzi Carpenter, the young woman who may or may not be his daughter, dies of a suspected overdose, Steven's whole life, and the town, is upended, and he embarks on a quest to discover what, or perhaps who, killed Suzi, only to unearth buried scars and hard truths about old friends.
