One of my star Art Warriors, Iryna, channeling Sir David Hockney. She's two weeks into this project and not done yet. I love getting students to expand their idea of how much time to spend on a piece.
When I was in France taking a workshop in 99, the teacher would ride his bike out to critique my progress in the field. Until then, I had never spent more than 2 -3 hours on a plein air pastel or watercolor piece.
Every time he rode out on his bike from the little studio in the village of Les Cerqueux-sous-Passavant (Loire Valley) he would stroke his chin a little and then say "I don't think it's done yet".
Eventually, I spent 9 hours on that pastel and it was beyond anything I'd ever done before.
Later, I sold it for a very good price.
The experience itself was priceless.
