Nothing ordinary about this 70th birthday.

Celebrating 70 years is monumental on its own, but the evening was about so much more than a birthday. It was a celebration of a beautiful life built together with his wife, their children, and the family they’ve created over the years.

The design was meant to feel like a flash of moments collected over a time. We wanted the design to feel personal to them, so we incorporated black, silver, candlelight, family photographs, and florals throughout the space, with a little disco touch into the details as a hint to something they’ve always loved doing together: dancing.

There’s something about flash photography that felt especially fitting for this one. A little nostalgic, a little imperfect, like catching a moment exactly as it happened.

Seventy years of life, a lifetime of memories, and a room filled with the people who are part of their story. This was such a special one to design.

Nothing ordinary about this 70th birthday.

Celebrating 70 years is monumental on its own, but the evening was about so much more than a birthday. It was a celebration of a beautiful life built together with his wife, their children, and the family they’ve created over the years.

This wedding, and the way it all came together, will be one I’ll never forget creating.

As a wedding vendor, it’s easy to describe what we do as a service. We design the flowers, set the tables, and, create the details. But there is something so much bigger and more meaningful about getting to be a small part of someone’s wedding day.

We’re creating things that will live in photographs for generations.

Someday, these photos may be pulled out and looked through by their children and grandchildren. They’ll see what her dress looked like, the flowers she carried, what everyone wore, the landscape they stood in, and all of those little details the bride and groom so intentionally chose for the day they decided to spend their lives together.

I think about that often when I design for my couples because I do the same thing with my own wedding photos. My children look through them now. They see my bouquet, my bridesmaids’ flowers, what their dad and I looked like, what our families wore, our venue, all the little details that made up a day that happened before they were even here. Something that was once just our wedding day has now become a piece of our family’s history.

There is something incredibly special about knowing that the things we create as wedding vendors become part of that story.

And this wedding was one I know I’ll remember.

Delivering these flowers to Whittier and seeing this day unfold against one of the most beautiful landscapes I’ve ever had the opportunity to create in was unforgettable. The storms, the wind, the rain, none of it took away from the day. Somehow, it became part of what made it so uniquely theirs.

These photographs were shared with me by the bride and groom. Their photographer captured not only the beauty of the day, but the feeling of it, the weather, the landscape, the florals, and all of those fleeting moments that deserve to be remembered. Theresa McDonald | Alaska & Destination Wedding Photographer is so talented and I am grateful for the opportunity to get to work with her.

It was such an honor to create a small piece of a day that will be looked back on for years and generations to come. 🤍
