Started with paragliding back in 1990. It has been amazing. Now we have canopies of all shapes and sizes designed to do a specific job. I know this video doesn’t show a paraglider but power kites and speedwings are just a couple different canopies to use in the wind. I love skiing and getting out on a pristine slope of snow. Although different, the transfer of skills lend to the other disciplines in order to stay current throughout the year in a place like Alaska. Once having the equipment and skills one just evaluates the wx and decides which toy to go use.

Sometimes we have to put our small paragliders up on long lines to get into the smooth stronger wind. Just kidding. This is Snowkiting. We have so many different types of wings these day. Pick the right tool for the job. Storm Kiting works best with skis and snow kites. Some do use snowboards which is a bit harder.

It doesn’t get much better then this. True solid glass off. This is Magic Air as we call it. The sun lowers in the horizon and the atmosphere cools overall causing the ground that has been heating all day to radiate off with air rising everywhere evenly rather then isolated thermals. It’s like flying a magic carpet.

This evening of flying in Hatcher’s Pass Area of the Talkeetna Mountains was true magic. Glider pilots live for the perfect day when the lapse rate increases…
