Trying to unpack from the IL trip (and failing). Bruce bought 6 Crystal Head Vodka shot glasses. 6! That was at one shop. Who knows if there's more. I think he's trying to corner the market on those and the bottles. I stepped on a piece of bubble wrap (with the BIG bubbles) and scared myself thinking I heard gunshots. Luckily we're closed today so no evidence of me jumping. Bruce was sealing the cracks in the parking lot today in preparation of putting a coating down. Maybe the bunny stripes will make a comeback!

Roundup of our trip to Cambridge, IL:

LaPorte has a lot of antique shops and we usually find stuff. Sad when we saw Pondside Resale had closed. But wait! The very nice lady at the Co-op Shops said they'd moved to a bigger and better building (true).

Cambridge auction was hot and I mean 100+ with heat index. Car is full. Got to eat at Cerno's twice with that fantastic Pabst bar plus $1 PBRs.

Sunday night Bruce is watching News Nation and they report a tornado north of Kewanee. Our hotel is in Kewanee. Wind, rain-nope. Thunder/lightning -yep.

Monday we decide we're not going home first before going to Kokomo to pick up auction purchases. Hit 4 shops in IL and of course we find some really great stuff. Bruce keeps finding room in a packed car. He is the Tetris master. Also, no spiderweb so YAY!!

Today we picked up the stuff in Kokomo and the sky was AWFUL! We are trying to outrun the storm to get to Jake's in Marion. Driving thru Sweetser the tornado siren went off. It is pitch black. Get to Jake's as the heavens open. Turns out Sweetser sets off the siren for a severe thunderstorm. Who does that?! Siren goes off twice while at Jake's. If workers aren't worried then we weren't, either.

Bruce is now grounded because of course he bought four big trucks at Jake's! How he got them in the car without me having to hold any is beyond me.

It's never boring when the Bordners take a trip. Heading home now. It's pouring. I'm done shopping. Where are we going to put all this stuff?

Auction Update: Does anyone remember the Great Spider Incident of 2023? Giant spider made a HUGE web in our car overnight. Well, I'm trying to repack purchases into fewer boxes. When loading matchbooks by hand, a giant spider makes his appearance known. I scream, drop the box, he evidently ran away (I hope!), and a very nice lady came over to help because there was no way I was picking those up. I told Bruce I'm done.

Yeah...so we're in Cambridge, IL, for an auction. What kind of auction, you ask? Toys-shocker. The building is a former Chevy dealership similar to ours but a few years newer. You guessed it. I'm in love. I told Bruce it would make a great antique mall. He said no. Boo. Hiss. The worst part about the building is they painted the brick white. Paint is horrible for brick.

I keep hearing ads on the radio for an event at the Wyndham where you bring in your valuables, have them appraised and then sell them. Just a piece of advice...it is unethical for an appraiser to purchase something they appraised. They tell you something is worth $100 and buy it but was it worth more? Due your due diligence. Check the sold items on eBay. Now, with coins there can be a big difference in price between grades. Are they telling you the value of a coin two or more grades below what your coin really is? Be safe and sell to ethical buyers. It's more than likely an "offer to purchase" than a true appraisal.

Bruce's payback for the headboard situation? He bought a Glasco Coke machine! Small enough to fit in the car but HEAVY! Which means guess who gets to move and it when it sells? Yep ..me... Now I just have to find somewhere to put it.

Oh, funny story about my headboard post. We stopped at Bad Creek Antiques in Delta, OH. She saw the post and had to ask Bruce all about it!

Last day of St Anthony's annual rummage sale. Guess who bought a Victorian walnut 3/4 bed? Me. Guess what won't fit in the car? The headboard. Guess who carried it from the church to the shop? Bruce. Hope he likes the strawberry pie I bought at the sale!

Most customers assume Tom is my husband. Nope. Tom and his wife Julie are the reason I haven't lost my sanity over the last several years. Tom is one of our vendors and someone we trust with our business. Bruce is the real husband and he doesn't work at the shop. You'll find him doing things like rearranging, mowing the yard and buying at auction. He "officially" became old Saturday and here he is celebrating with our great-granddaughters!
