When you see an olive/orange crawfish showing up regularly as fish food you match the hatch. Today a new pattern prototype found the biggest one of the day. It was ceremoniously removed for replication right after. Didn’t see the dry fly bite I was going for, but it was a great evening on the water. Lots of fish and beautiful weather.

Lots of bluegills today. If I was keeping them, it was a limit under an hour. Good news for these bluegills, and the fishery in general, is they all live to swim another day. These fish are averaging 8.5 to 9” roughly, and a 10” gill is doable. Just have to keep letting them swim.

Found a few feisty, albeit a little undersized smallmouth, who tested my knots. The knots passed, but they sure tried.

Missed two opportunities on suckers. You don’t get many, so that was a hard pill to swallow.

It was not exactly on fire today on the river. Saved a dragonfly from almost certain death by smallmouth and shortly after connected on a Master Angler Northern Hogsucker. It cleared the minimum by 4.5”, and as you can see, swam back to get bigger.

Day Two with this crew was a full day morning trip. A different type of game today, and it definitely wasn’t the fast paced action of yesterday. That being said it was a great day, good company, fun being had, and more entertainment in the realm of photography!
