Building a downtown takes more than buildings. It takes people who believe in it! ❤️

Behind the scenes, we have been working incredibly hard to bring three additional storefronts to life, along with Maddie Rae’s Chapter and Charm, my daughter’s bookstore in our former boutique location!

There has been so much moving, renovating, planning, and waiting! One project has to be finished before another can begin, and there have been plenty of things completely out of our hands.

And, of course, we would be doing all of this right in the middle of harvest season! But I guess that’s just the story of my life! 🚜

This week, our focus is Maddie Rae’s Chapter and Charm! We’re working hard in hopes that it will be the first to open its doors!

As always, I have my hands pretty full (quite literally!), and I know I’ve been terrible about keeping everyone updated. Just know there’s a whole lot happening behind the scenes!

Thank you for your patience, encouragement, and continued support. A thriving downtown doesn’t happen overnight. It takes hard work, dedication, and people who believe in the future of their small town.

Here’s to bringing new life to old buildings, believing in small towns, and making Main Street something special again!

✨📚 Meet The Owner, Maddie Rae 📚✨

The girl behind Maddie Rae’s Chapter and Charm. 🤍

Hi! My name is Madalyn Rae, but most everyone knows me as Maddie Rae. I’m 19 years old, a 2025 graduate of Anna-Jonesboro Community High School, and I’m attending Shawnee Community College studying business.

I attended Eagle Ridge Christian School throughout my elementary and junior high years, and Southern Illinois has always been home. So when the opportunity came for me to open a business of my own, I knew I wanted to bring something special to the community - something a little different and something that felt like me.

And if you’ve known me for very long, you probably know exactly what that would be.

Books. 📚

I’ve been an avid book lover for as long as I can remember. My mom read to me every night when I was little, and some of my sweetest childhood memories involve books and stories.

In fact, my favorite Disney princess growing up was Belle—and if I’m being completely truthful, a big reason was that incredible library. 😂 The floor-to-ceiling books, more books than you could ever possibly read, and of course, that rolling ladder!

I dreamed of having a library like Belle’s someday.

Little did that little girl know that at 19, she would be getting ready to open a place filled with books of her very own. I guess you could say I finally get to be my own version of Belle. 🤍📖

But the idea for an actual bookstore really came to life during a family vacation to St. George Island, Florida.

We spent a day exploring nearby Apalachicola, wandering through the little shops, when we came across the sweetest little bookstore. The minute I walked through the door, I loved it. I could have spent the entire day there.

And somewhere inside that little bookstore, it just clicked.

This is what I want to do.

I realized how rarely I come across those charming little bookstores anymore—and how much I wished there were more of them. I wanted to create that feeling at home. A place where you can slow down, browse the shelves, discover a new favorite book, find a special gift, and maybe stay a little longer than you planned.

And that little idea began turning into Maddie Rae’s Chapter and Charm.

At 19, I know I have so much to learn, but I couldn’t be more excited to begin this adventure, grow alongside my business, and create something special for our community.

Maybe it won’t be quite as enormous as Belle’s library… but give me time. 😉📚

I can’t wait to open the doors and welcome you inside.

As you can imagine, there’s a LOT to move and even more happening behind the scenes. With harvest season in full swing, we don’t have opening dates set for either business just yet. We’re working as quickly as we can and appreciate your patience! ❤️

A little fall reminder from Farmer’s Daughter!

Fall is an extremely busy season for us! Between receiving fall and winter inventory at the store and fall harvest on our farm, I am rarely in the store, and when I am, I’m catching up on a million things!

Our girls do an amazing job keeping the store running, but I personally approve and fund our donations and sponsorships. Unfortunately, flyers left on my desk often go unseen until the event has already passed.

PLEASE contact me directly for donation or sponsorship requests!

We proudly support Union, Pulaski, Alexander, and surrounding counties because our customers come from all these communities!

Some of our largest and most meaningful donations go toward cancer benefits and families facing incredible difficulties. Last year alone, we gladly donated approximately $5,000 just to those benefits! This does not include our donations to schools, fundraisers, and other community activities.

Just because you personally haven’t received a donation doesn’t mean we aren’t actively giving back. We cannot fulfill every request, but we genuinely love supporting our communities. If we can’t help this year, perhaps we can next year!
