One of my favorite things about pecan orchards is how the soil changes over time.
The longer these trees stand, the richer the ground becomes — more organic matter, more life, more of that deep, healthy earth that only time can make.

It’s proof that good food starts long before harvest.
It starts underground.

Did you know pecan trees may help store carbon from the atmosphere?

Pecan trees are long-lived hardwood trees that absorb carbon dioxide as they grow — storing it in their trunks, branches, roots, and even the soil around them.

Unlike annual crops that are replanted every year, pecan orchards can remain productive for generations.

Food production + long-term trees = a pretty interesting combination.

Subject: Meet Pecan Pete — The Original Southern Nut
If you’ve seen my NuttyMerch designs, you’ve probably spotted this little guy.

Pecan Pete rolled out of a Texas orchard with a cowboy hat, a big smile, and a heart full of Southern manners.

He’s brave in a kid friendly way, goofy in the best way, and always ready to help a friend.

Kids love him. Parents love him. And Pete loves everybody right back.

He’s the leader of the “Pecan Crew,” and over the next few weeks, I’ll introduce you to the rest of the gang.

Subject: A Little Story From the Orchard…

Y’all know I’ve spent years growing, cracking, and sharing pecans with families all over Texas. But what most folks don’t know is that somewhere along the way, those pecans started taking on personalities in my thoughts.

One day I designed (with some AI help) a little pecan with a cowboy hat and a big grin… and that doodle turned into Pecan Pete, the first character in what’s now a whole cast of Southern, nutty personalities, that the Grandkids love.

NuttyMerch grew out of that moment — a fun way to bring Southern humor, kindness, and Texas pride to kids’ shirts and gifts.
If you’ve ever wondered where these characters came from… well, they came straight from the orchard.
