Spent the day cleaning the greenhouse.. the ivy has snuck in and had to be purged! Found a couple blooming beauties, as well as a lovely lily in the pond. The last picture was not a welcome one.. I generally don’t kill things and if these were outside I would leave them to do whatever they do in the winter, but with these IN the greenhouse where it’s going to be warm all winter, I fear they would stay put and just get bigger. I will monitor them into the fall and if they don’t appear like they’re going to move along I will be forced to take unwanted action.

This is not AI.. this is true real deal growing out of a crack in the driveway. We had a light mist this morning so they hadn’t closed up yet and I was able to capture the droplets of water… the color is incredible.

Today I’m bagging up sponge rock (perlite)in all sizes… the largest is #8 and the smallest is #2, also know as coarse for some reason.. even though it’s quite small. We carry all sizes and it’s all in stock and ready to ship. Sizes #3, #4 (pictured here) and #8 are hand sifted to remove as much dust as possible (litter scoops make great sifters - unused for litter of course!). It’s dirty work so should be done outside and please.. WEAR a RESPIRATOR when working with sponge rock of any size!

Attaching legs to my latest succulent pot. No matter how fast I think I’m going to be, I only ever manage two pots in a three hour lab time. I can’t wait for this one to come out of the kiln. Stand by!

I haven’t carried bamboo stakes for a while and am considering a batch of 12” and 18”. The color option in stock is “coffee”.

I have carried green in the past and one time got a batch that was almost turquoise (and pretty awful). As growers what do you think about coffee color? I think it might be a bit more natural looking than the typical green. What do YOU think?

We now carry clear bulb pans/succulent pots in three sizes! These pots have a lovely mesh bottom and are extremely sturdy. A slightly textured surface and rounded shape makes them more attractive than a traditional plastic pot. Check them out in our shop (Quarteracreorchids.com).

In addition to growing orchids, I grow quite a few succulents too. But I can never find rustic and interesting pots for them.. and a good looking succulent deserves an interesting pot. So like all crafters I decided I’d simply make them myself! Here is my first pot out of the kiln… it’s been … geeze….38 years since I’ve played with clay but so far I’m really enjoying it again. Stay tuned for more pots!

It’s hard not to appreciate the brilliance of this lip in the sunshine! This one is tucked on a shelf under a low hanging tree and I might not have even noticed it, but for the brilliant flash of hot pink.
