The last week and a half has definitely tested us.

Our nearly 70-year-old meat case officially called it quits. On Monday, the air conditioning went out making it 92° in the store. That evening, the basement flooded. And in the middle of it all, we were preparing and catering 7 meals for the Nebraska Grazing Lands Coalition—something we're honored to do every year.

There were definitely moments where it felt like everything that could go wrong was going wrong.

Instead, we did what we always do.

We kept on keeping on.

One step at a time. Pivoting when needed. Early mornings. Late nights. Solving one problem before moving on to the next.

And once again, our community reminded us why we love this little town so much.

On what could have been a relaxing Friday evening, Pat, Jason, Ryan, Tabbi, Tate, and Tilden showed up ready to wrestle a meat case that had been part of this building since 1954. Let's just say... they built things to last back then. It wasn't an easy job, but thanks to a whole lot of muscle (and determination), it's finally out.

We truly couldn't do this without friends, neighbors, and a community that's always willing to show up.

So if you stop in and don't see what you're looking for in the meat department—or notice it's looking a little empty—please ask! We're making it work while we prepare for what's next.

One of our family mottos has always been:
"It's the hard that makes it great."

After this week, we think we're adding another:
"It's fine. Just pivot." 😅

A win worth celebrating!

If you've shopped with us for very long, you probably know we've had our fair share of frustrations when it came to getting Frito-Lay products delivered. While larger stores often receive direct service without a second thought, many small rural businesses are left to figure it out on their own.

Well... not anymore.

Thanks to a little persistence, a lot of advocacy, and Mike—our local Frito-Lay representative who went to bat for us—we're officially receiving direct Frito-Lay deliveries!

It may seem like a small thing, but it's another reminder that rural businesses deserve the same opportunities and support as anyone else. Sometimes it takes someone willing to speak up, keep asking the hard questions, and refuse to accept "that's just the way it is."

We're incredibly grateful to Mike for believing in our little store and helping make this happen.

To our customers: every time you choose to shop local, you're helping make improvements like this possible. Thank you for continuing to support The Market & Mill and all the small businesses that work hard to serve rural Nebraska.

Here's to persistence, advocacy, and never underestimating what a few determined people can accomplish.❤️
