The fun is about to begin in Eagle River, Wisconsin at the National Championship Musky Open! Angler registration started today and we got a great preview of the Mepps setup located at the St. Croix Rods booth! Anglers, don’t forget to stop by and pick up your winning bait! We even had Steve Heiting stop by to sprinkle some extra magic on the Mepps section.

Good luck to all musky anglers in the tournament!

MUSKY OPEN — The 40th annual National Championship Musky Open will be held in Eagle River this weekend, August 20-23, with around 1,200 anglers involved. It is the largest single fundraiser for the Musky Clubs Alliance of Wisconsin. I am proud to be the MC for this event, and believe this will be my 26th year on stage. In this photo from 2001, the angler who caught the largest musky in the tournament the year before is about to be presented with a replica of his fish by noted taxidermist Joe Fittante — who, incidentally, is still producing replicas for the tournament's big fish. Thanks, Joe!

It’s that time of the year again!!

Eagle River, WI. will be BUZZING this upcoming weekend during the 40th annual National Championship Musky Open Tournament.

Just your friendly reminder that last years Championship was won by Wisconsin's own, Bob Sommers who was throwing a Mepps Musky Flashabou that just so happens to be hand-assembled down the road in Antigo, WI.

Also a shoutout to the best Master of Ceremonies in the muskie biz —> Steve Heiting

The Syclops is ready for round #2!

Mepps Syclops after a hard day fighting northern pike (see previous post). Chewed on, scratched and mauled but it just keeps on working…and will be ready for more battles tomorrow!

Shoutout to Lisa for hooking into a bowfin, not to be confused with a snakehead! What do YOU call a bowfin? Some call it a dogfish, others a mudfish, safe to say the bowfin has many nicknames throughout the United States.

After just pulling into a cozy little cove at Stave Island on the St. Lawrence River Ontario Canada I was unsure what lure to use so my boyfriend told me to use his favorite spinner, which I found out to be was the red and white #5 Mepps Aglia spinner. On my very first cast I hooked this 28" 8.24lbs once in a lifetime BOWFIN. Made this rookie fisherwoman hooked for life!
