Arcata Pet Supplies The oldest and largest pet store in Arcata. Locally owned and operated since 1972. The store first opened in 1972 under the name of Arcata Aquarium.

It was a small aquarium store. The current owners, Don and Joy, were two of that store's first employees. In 1976 Don and Joy took over the business and added a few products for other animals to the shop’s inventory. As the store evolved, small animals and birds were soon added as was the name Arcata Pet. In 1984 we were one of the first retail pet stores to stop selling and supporting the wild bi

rd trade. We maintained our own breeding collection of Blue and Gold Macaws, Amazon Parrots, African Greys, Cockatoos and Caiques in our store. As we have become more supply oriented, our breeding stock has been sold or sent to live their lives out in retirement with our employees.

Even in temporary cages, enrichment is vital! Coordinated play like this supports your bird's long-term cognitive health and encourages social stimulation. While these three have been especially enamored with their rings lately, there are many options for bird toys of all sizes, shapes, and textures to choose from to keep your bird engaged and happy.

But to the people that eventually adopt these parakeets...you may need to get some toy rings.

We are hiring! Be sure to bring your resume and cover letter to the store. If you have already submitted a resume in the past, please bring in another. This full-time (40 Hour/Week) position includes customer service, sales, inventory management, animal care, animal husbandry, order fulfillment, and store maintenance. You must be able to work weekends!

Pet shop experience is not necessary, but pet experience and retail experience are required. Experience with birds and/or aquatics is highly preferred. We are a busy store, so we are looking for employees who enjoy a fast-paced work environment with minimal supervision. Ability to lift 50 lbs. is required, as we move a lot of dog food every week.
