Mavey Books Friends - we love ya’ll!
Today was one long love poem, celebrating two fantastic years as Ardmore’s women-and-Arab-
owned indie bookstore, and, yes, we are excited for the future!
Our readers and you all are proof that people love choices, diversity, critical thinking, laughter, and making friends. You all demonstrate that you believe in sharing the pie, that minorities count and deserve a voice, and that a multi-dimensional rainbow is so much more fun than a box. It is FUN to be a book-curator/reviewer/recommender/lover & chit-chatter and we love y’all so much. (Obviously running a bookstore includes a ton of other tasks, but these are the public-facing ones, haha!).
Today half of our team was missing (darn that random virus that is now a thing of the past!), but we still managed to get (most) of our program running! We had a fabulous story time with lots and lots of happy, curious kids. We had fun being creative making new friends AND bookmarks. Our day was happily interrupted several times with FIND ZE ROBOT (aka Golden Ticket) and winning gift cards. - What was amazing about those Treasure Hunts was the focus and intensity;
I seriously wanted everyone to be a winner! And, of course, we had plenty of sweets and freebies all day long and, oh, all the galleys/ARCs/free books!
Thank you to everyone that came out, comes out, and always shows up for Mavey Books. Thank you for wanting us amongst you, for being booklovers and amazing humans who care about other folks and for always showing so much consideration and curiosity. Thank you for the smiles, for listening to us both share our ongoing and never-ending enthusiasm for our books, and thank you for the coffees, home baked goods, and flowers we sometimes are gifted. It all adds up to making this whole thing go around (as hard as staying in independent business it is these days).
Mavey Says: Yeah! Mavey also says Go Read! Stay woke, stay kind, and don’t become cynical. Stay small, whole, and open-minded.🙃🥳📚
