Did you know Bernina's story began with a hemstitch machine? What was once a detailed technique done entirely by hand could suddenly be recreated by machine. Today, using a wing needle, you can create beautiful heirloom-style hemstitch designs right on your sewing machine!

You can add handles to almost any bag with this simple trick. First, baste the handles in place, then attach a binding strip over the edge. Fold the binding to the inside and topstitch along both edges, tripping away any excess handles material as you go.

This method creates a clean finish on the inside while also reinforcing the handles for extra durability.

If you've ever had thread get tanged in your bobbin area, Janome's jam-proof bobbin system can be a lifesaver. The bobbin is designed to float slightly within the bobbin case, helping excess thread feed out onto the underside of the fabric instead of getting tightly jammed inside the machine.

The Bernina walking foot works together with the feed dogs to move your quilt layers evenly while you sew, helping create smooth, consistent stitches. Because the foot holds the fabric securely as it feeds, it helps reduce puckering and makes sewing through layers much easier. That's why so many quilters love using it!

Splash fabric is fantastic for water-resistant bags, but you need to treat it carefully since it sews much like vinyl. Stitching over the same seam multiple times can perforate the material and weaken it, increasing the chance of tearing.

If you need to remove stitches, a very fine seam ripper will help reduce damage.

Make the cutest fabric tray in just a few steps! Layer two squares of fabric with batting, stitch around the edges, and turn it right side out before topstitching.

Then stitch down each corner to form “walls,” and your tray is done! It’s a fun, customizable project you can size up or down and personalize with fabric or embroidery.
