Today, we pause to remember the Emanuel Nine on the eleventh anniversary of the tragic shooting at Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Though years have passed, we continue to honor their faith, witness, and legacy. As we remember, let us pray for the congregation of Mother Emanuel, and all whose lives were forever changed by this tragedy.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Let’s celebrate Author on her debut children’s book Hair 👶🏽📚

The Map in My Hair is a touching mother, daughter story about love, heritage, and courage. McKenzie, the main character, learned about the history of cornrows from her mother while getting her hair done. Journey with McKenzie as she learns that cornrows are more than a hairstyle, it’s a tradition of beauty that has been carried through generations. She learns that certain hair patterns indicated secret messages, and escape routes. McKenzie was surprised to know that cornrows were a way for enslaved Africans to communicate with each other... and so much more!

Excellence!

When Principal Rodney White took the position as principal of R.L. Paschal High School, the largest and oldest high school in Fort Worth, he knew he was stepping into a major role.

Principal White has worked at several schools in Fort Worth ISD including Leonard Middle School, Dunbar Middle School (now J. Martin Jacquet Middle School), the former Glencrest 6th Grade, and he was the founding principal of the Young Men’s Leadership Academy. During his time at all campuses, students and staff worked together for growth in student achievement and YMLA earned an A rating.

Now serving as Paschal’s first Black principal, Principal White is making history while working to ensure success for every student, a model of leadership that we’re proud to recognize during Black History Month.

Louie represents Black excellence in both publishing and workforce development. As the founder of Melanin Origins, a Black-owned publishing company, he creates culturally responsive children’s books that teach Black history, values, and pride.
In addition, his hard work as the Executive Director of Building Pathways in Fort Worth, Texas, Louie helps create real career opportunities in trade construction—opening doors to economic mobility and generational impact.
Through storytelling and service, he is helping build both minds, communities, and black history. ✊🏾📚
