A Rich Life Is a Contented Life
A rich life is a contented life,
not one crowded with possessions,
but one spacious enough
to receive each moment as it is.
To wake and hear
the quiet breath of morning,
to feel sunlight resting gently upon your skin,
to drink deeply from an ordinary cup of tea,
and to savour this moment,
right here and now.
We spend our years gathering,
always reaching for what lies ahead,
only to discover
that abundance was never waiting in the distance.
It was hidden in the pause,
in the simplicity of a shared meal,
in the warmth of shared laughter,
in the courage to sit still
and listen to the whisper of our own soul.
Contentment does not mean
we cease to dream.
It means we learn to dream
without making happiness conditional
upon having more or becoming more.
We walk toward tomorrow
while remaining rooted in today.
And slowly,
the restless river of wanting
begins to settle.
In that stillness,
we begin to see clearly:
a life need not be
grand
to be profound,
nor overflowing
to be rich.
Sometimes wealth is simply
an unclenched hand,
a grateful heart,
a peaceful mind,
a home filled with quiet,
and the gentle realization
that we have been blessed
with more than we could ever wish for.
The deepest form of abundance
is not having everything we desire,
but being fully present
to everything we already have.
To love without keeping score.
To give without needing recognition.
To rest without feeling guilty.
To look upon an ordinary day
and find it quite extraordinary.
And when we finally stop asking life
to give us more,
we may discover something beautiful:
the richness we were searching for
was never outside us.
It was here,
in this breath,
in this moment,
right now,
in this fleeting, beautiful
and precious life.
