I don’t share very much that isn’t business-related, but this family are some of our favorite customers. Please lend a hand if you can.
🇺🇸 HELP US SUPPORT A LOCAL VETERAN AND HIS FAMILY 🇺🇸
Moving Veterans Forward – North Central Iowa is asking our community to come together for a homebound United States Marine, Mikell, and his wife as they face an incredibly difficult chapter.
Mikell is currently battling his fourth round of a rare cancer. He has begun 25 radiation treatments, which will be followed by a major surgery and an extended hospital stay. His treatments require repeated travel to Sanford facilities in Worthington and Sioux Falls, creating significant expenses for gas, meals and lodging.
Mikell also struggles with severe anxiety, making it especially important that his wife is able to remain by his side and provide his transportation and support throughout treatment.
At this time, their greatest needs are:
⛽ Gas gift cards
🍔 Restaurant and fast-food gift cards for Worthington and Sioux Falls
🛒 Walmart, Target, grocery or Dollar General gift cards
🏨 Assistance with lodging and travel expenses
💵 Cash donations — no checks, please
We would also love to put together some comfort items to help Mikell through his treatments, recovery and hospital stay:
• Short socks
• XL loose-fitting sweatpants or lounge pants
• Sports and car magazines
• Word-search and crossword-puzzle books
• Adult coloring books and colored pencils
• Hard candies and chewing gum
• Dollar General gummy frogs — his absolute favorite!
• A wedge pillow for elevating his legs
• Aquaphor or CeraVe fragrance-free lotion
All clothing, socks and personal-care items should be new, please.
Donations may be dropped off at:
📍 AK’s Chrome Kitchen
1321 Highway 18 East, Algona
🕖 Open 7 AM–2 PM, closed Tuesdays
Please note that we can accept cash and gift cards, but we cannot accept checks. Cash donations will be kept separate and given to the family to help with their travel, meals and lodging expenses.
No contribution is too small. A gas card, a puzzle book, a package of socks or even simply sharing this post can help lighten the load for this family.
Most importantly, Mikell and his wife are asking for prayers. He is facing an extraordinarily difficult treatment and surgery, and they need all the strength, comfort and support our community can give them.
Let’s remind this Marine and his wife that they are not facing this battle alone. ❤️🤍💙
