A customer brought in this Squier Stratocaster for an electrical repair and a professional setup. The issue? A disconnected ground wire at the output jack was keeping this Strat from working properly.

Repaired the output jack ground connection by installing a new ground wire

🎸 A Little More Versatility for This LSL Telecaster! 🤘

A customer brought in this SLS Telecaster looking to add some tonal versatility with a coil-split modification for the humbuckers.

🔧 Here's what we did:
- Removed the existing 250K CTS potentiometer
- Installed a new 250K CTS Push/Pull potentiometer
- Wired the push/pull function to split the humbucker coils when pulled up
- Tested the modification to verify proper operation

Now the customer has the flexibility to switch between full humbucker tone and a single-coil-style sound with a simple pull of the volume k**b!

And seriously… check out the flame in that maple fretboard! 🔥 That's one beautiful neck!

🎸 SBS VS200 Offset Relic in Sonic Blue — Custom Fretwork & Setup! 🤘

This beautiful Sonic Blue SBS VS200 Offset Relic Electric Guitar came into Problem Child Guitar Shop for some custom work. The customer wanted a fret level, ultra-low action, a different tremolo spring configuration, and a fresh set of strings tuned to E-flat.

🔧 Here's what the job involved:
- Masked and protected the fretboard
- Performed a complete fret level
- Recrowned and polished all frets
- Reconfigured the tremolo springs to the customer's preferred orientation
- Installed Ernie Ball M-Steel 10–46 strings
- Tuned to E-flat
- Completed a custom setup, dialing in the lowest practical action while maintaining clean playability

This was more than your typical setup. The fretwork created a consistent playing surface, allowing me to bring the action down and fine-tune the guitar to the customer's specifications.

The result? Smooth frets, ultra-low action, and a Sonic Blue offset that's dialed in and ready to play!

A customer brought in a classic Fender Telecaster and Fender Stratocaster for fresh strings and professional setups. Each guitar had its own string gauge preference, so I tailored the setups to match!

Check out this amazing Skervesen Raptor! Skervesen is a Polish guitar builder known for its custom-built instruments, distinctive designs, premium wood combinations, and serious tonal versatility. The Raptor can be configured with different woods, pickups, hardware, and even multiscale options, making each guitar unique. This is some seriously impressive craftsmanship!

🔧 What did this Raptor need?

Light guitar cleaning

Fretboard cleaned and conditioned

Several frets carefully reseated

Fresh set of D’Addario XL 10–46 strings installed

Setup for standard E tuning

Action dialed in nice and low for a fast, comfortable playing feel

The customer wanted to move to a lighter string gauge and standard E tuning, so the goal was to get everything working together for excellent playability without sacrificing clean fretting.

🎸 A New Instrument, A New Challenge! 🎶

A customer brought in a Washburn electric mandolin for some TLC, including a thorough cleaning, fresh strings, and a professional setup. With band practice just two days away, I got right to work!

🔧 Here’s what the job involved:

Removed the strings and pickguard for a thorough cleaning

Researched proper mandolin setup procedures to make sure everything was done correctly

Installed a fresh set of D’Addario mandolin strings

Adjusted the setup to the appropriate specifications

Checked and corrected the intonation

This was the shop’s first mandolin, so there was a little learning involved! One useful tip I picked up was marking the bridge’s original position with blue painter’s tape before making adjustments. That gave me a reference point, but I also noticed something unusual: the high E string was closer to the tailpiece than the low G string. A quick intonation check confirmed my suspicion that the bridge needed repositioning.

The electric pickup added another wrinkle. The piezo pickup wire runs through the body and into the saddle, creating a pivot point that limits how far the bridge assembly can move. Understanding that helped me get the bridge positioned correctly and the intonation dialed in.

And yes, finding strings on a Sunday was an adventure of its own! I tracked down an open music store and bought their last set of mandolin strings. More are on order for the next mandolin that comes through the shop!

Another guitar back in action at Problem Child Guitar Shop! 🎸

A customer brought in this Yamaha Pacifica for a professional setup. During the initial inspection, I found excessive neck relief, very high string action, and high frets across the fretboard. The output jack was also loose and needed attention.

Here’s what went into getting this Pacifica playing its best:

• Adjusted the truss rod to correct the neck relief
• Level-sanded the frets to address high spots
• Crowned and polished the frets
• Deep cleaned the guitar
• Cleaned and conditioned the fretboard
• Secured the loose output jack
• Installed a fresh set of Ernie Ball strings
• Completed a professional setup, dialing in the action and intonation

With the fretwork corrected, the hardware secured, and the setup dialed in, this Pacifica is playing the way it should and ready to go! 🤘

Another unique instrument on the bench at Problem Child Guitar Shop! 🎸🤘

A customer brought in this Carillion Polaris 7 “Kessel Run” for a full fret level and professional setup in Drop A tuning, using a custom string set that included a wound third.

Before getting started, I had to take a moment to admire this gorgeous, custom, hand-built guitar from the UK. What an instrument!

Once I got down to business, a thorough inspection revealed several high frets across the neck that required more than simply reseating. I carefully protected the fretboard and surrounding surfaces before getting to work.

The service included:

• Performed a full fret level
• Crowned and polished the frets
• Thoroughly cleaned the guitar
• Installed a custom set of D’Addario NYXL strings, including a wound third
• Tuned to Drop A
• Completed a professional setup, dialing everything in for the new string gauges and tuning

With the fretwork complete and the setup dialed in, this seven-string is playing as good as it looks!
