They're apart of the morning glory family - yes, that morning glory - the vining, sprawling plant that is oftentimes known as a w**d in many gardens. Sweet potatoes, while related, won’t become a nuisance in the way that morning glories can be. But, they are a tenacious vine that loves to spread under full sun!
Sweet potatoes are long-growing, warm weather plants that are easy-to-grow where the climate allows for a 120 day growing season. And as an added bonus, their abundant, heart-shaped leaves are delicious greens as well, great for sautéing up mid-summer when there aren’t too many leafy greens around. The warm soil of summer encourages the slips to really take off and mature quickly - shading out w**ds and producing beautiful tubers.
