Weird brain flowers and carnivorous plants.

Amazing crested celosia to create your new flower fixation.

Plus, I went to a bog and found a rare carnivorous plant.

The world relies on weird brains — creatives, divergent thinkers, visionaries. This Act Celosia is a homage to weird brains with its folded, crested blooms. Velvety and mesmerizing, these flowers will amuse you fresh or dried.

Our lisianthus crop has been our most successful ever! These ruffly petals look great wherever we put them, from bud vases to bridal bouquets. They elevate whatever they touch, and they last a super long time. The crop will continue and hopefully flush again, but the abundance is starting to slow down, so be sure to get them this week or next week.

Melissa and I are both really driven farmers. Melissa is our farm manager, and I am our paperwork farmer hehe. If you have watched our Wednesday farm walks on stories, you know we like to be silly too, but we’re really just lightening the sorrow of farming — because no matter how much you know, there are always problems. We’re bad about focusing only on problems and not looking at what we did well. So I’m here to say: we got lisis right this year. We chose varieties that would flower a bit later, we planted at the right time, the farm team stayed on top of the weeds even though these first-year beds meant the weeds were wicked, we watered and fed. We tried a new planting configuration that reduced disease dramatically. Our extension agent told us our crop has a virus, TSWV, but the plants are so healthy, it doesn’t matter. So much to celebrate here.

We are still in our first full season at our new farm, so getting anything right is a huge triumph. Farming builds momentum exponentially, and each year of weeding, building soil, setting up infrastructure and creating routine lends strength to the successive years. We’re just getting started — again! And it’s a very promising beginning.
