The news from nutland this fall is that we're taking the season off from processing nuts.
Mostly, anyway. No black walnuts. If you've got acorns, hickories, or other nuts, send us a message and we'll see about working something out.
The Nuttery has been at it 5 years and worked up about 30,000 lbs of nuts into oils, flours, kernels, milk, cream, skin care products, dyes, buttons and more. We've traded processing services for nuts for approximately 150 gatherers in that time. We've shared what we've been learning along the way with many curious squirrelfriends. And we have caught a glimpse of the delicious potential of a forest-based foodway that cherishes trees and their crops.
We're looking now to the very brainy bitternut hickory pictured here to guide us as we rein in the impulse to gather every nut we see, and instead focus on figuring out the long term plan for both the Nuttery and the Nutty Buddy Collective nut orchards. If you've been a part of this project in one way or another, or are interested in getting involved, we'd love to receive your feedback and input as we develop plans for the next phase of this work. We'll be hosting a forum on Oct 26th to hear ideas and feedback. And there's a form linked in the bio with a link to the event details.
