Hello, friends.

We believe in you—all of you! We are inspired by the spirit of community and recovery coming from every nook and crannie of WNC. We are grateful to be part of neighbors driven to help one another, build back better than before, and not let this break them.

Makes me think that maybe "WNC" could stand for:
• We'll Never Cease
• Will Not Cave
• Will Not Cede
• When Neighbors Care
• We Neighbors Can

Or something like that. I'm sure there are other words out there to better describe what's happening here, but you get what I'm saying.

You guys absolutely rock, and we love you!

The Village Mercantile:
No additional updates on the store. We are still focusing on how to reopen, and think it will be possible, but will require patience on our part. When we know anything new, we will share it with you guys ASAP.

On a personal note:
Our family is back in Asheville now. We spent a few weeks with friends and family. Our AVL home has power and Internet, but we are still waiting on water. A few of our neighbors have started receiving partial flow, so water at home seems to be eminent. We are the lucky ones.

A sign to hang in there?

Our wonderful landlord hired a crew to clean out the mess left at the store by Hell-ene. Sadly, nothing was salvageable. But this little bear is holding on tight and giving us HOPE and FAITH for better things to come.

I'm sad to say that the store was destroyed inside. The building itself it's still standing, but I'm not sure about it's structure. I'm really hopeful that there's potential to reopen at some point, but I'm just not sure that's even an option. It absolutely sucks and I am very sad about it, but I have faith that we will recover (eventually) and come out better for it. Send your prayers to those who have lost so much more than us. The store was just stuff. But there's devastation everywhere and many need your help more than we do. Donate to local charities if you can, please.

We are safe. My family is safe. Our home is relatively unscathed. We have left the area for the time being to get a reprieve from the lack of available services.

We have not been able to see the store in person, but have seen it on videos and pictures sent from family and friends. It looks like the flood reached 3/4 the height of the building. It has subsided now. The second picture is the day after. The last two are today, and you can clearly see there's a table or desk through the front window.

Well, damn.

We'll get more information when the landlord visits the building later. But, we can assume it's pretty crazy in there.

I do really hope to reopen. I was really enjoying our little store.

We are together and, right now, that's all that matters right now.

We will recover.
