Andy Says: "One of my favorite phrases in the wine business is "importer close out." This Southern Rhône Syrah was retailing for $28 and was a steal at that price. Now, you can take it home for less than $20.
Clos de L'Olivier is a 4th generation family-owned winery practicing natural winemaking with indigenous yeast, no added sulfur and aging in concrete rather than oak. Medium to full bodied, the wine shows flavors of black cherry, cooked plum, black pepper, crushed violets and just a whiff of smoky bacon.
At $19.99, this bottle is a great alternative to the pricier, better known Northern Rhone Syrahs. Pair de L'Olivier with meats, rich cheeses and, yes, pizza and pasta smothered in red sauce.
We poured for customers when bottles arrived. All good reports. But this value won't last. Shop a Case! With 15% Case Discount, Bottle price comes down to $16.99!"

California Vineyards are Burning. Shop CA! California’s wine industry has gotten so desperate that one vineyard owner torched his own vines after deciding they were worth more as ashes than grapes.

The Golden State’s struggling wineries have faced mounting financial pressure for years, with conditions becoming so grim that California lawmakers recently appealed to Canada to reopen its market to American wine.

But while that international lifeline remains uncertain, a new report from The New York Times is offering a look at just how bleak the situation has become.

Jason Smith, CEO of Valley Farm Management, said he recently sold all of his land — then set fire to his vineyards because there was no longer any economic reason to keep them.

“There’s literally no way for me to make money,” the 57-year-old Smith said.
