In the ER today
Hi friends as you know I’m not taking new work right now but I thought I’d pop in and say hello!
Finally got around to working on my own #1 and… #1 (I like them both!). I do pinky swells and my volume pots were getting stiff and Deoxing wasn’t cutting it. I decided to put new CTS 250K pots in and guess what?
Life is good once again!

Herman is building a handwired 1965 Fender Princeton Reverb clone! Some call this the perfect Fender tone. Not the loudest but the sweetest! Hundreds of classic recordings featured guitars played through this amp. This was a very detailed meticulous project. My second kit build. I did have to find and eliminate a hum - filamant proximity turned out to be the culprit!!
This amp really does sound sweet!
Not many amps come through the ER.

An LA soundtrack composer, engineer/producer buddy of mine dropped by while passing through the Central Coast. This is his 1960’s Hofner Galaxy!
A look under the hood reveals some of the most complex wiring I’ve ever seen in an electric guitar! It has a charm of it’s own. However I prefer Leo Fender’s simpler designs.

Kudos to the Fender Custom Shop for a faithful recreation of the 1951 Precision Bass. Removing the chrome covers (most players do this for access) reveals the single coil pickup that preceded the classic offset P bass pickup. A big surprise was the oversized pressed rolled fiber bridge saddles that were replaced with metal in 1953. I didn’t know these saddles even existed! Enjoy the photos!

No one wants to see this happen to their guitar! Looks like there is enough surface to perform the glue and clamp repair. Glued repairs are often stronger than the wood itself.

Customer brought in a “player” 50’s Les Paul that’s had a lot of mods over the years and a 90’s Larravee acoustic for binding repair. The Les Paul needed a set up. I didn’t even realize when it came in this guitar was signed by Les Paul!! Don’t see that every day!

This is a Kreibich-Klira archtop jazz guitar. German made in the 60’s. In for some fretwork and a set up. First one I’ve seen.
Oh yeah the customer pulled up in a red 60’s classic Chevy pickup that matches the guitar!

A mid 90’s Fender Strat in for a modern upgrade. A set of Fishman Fluence Pickups with rechargeable power back plate. These noiseless pickups include a push pull pot that lets you choose between 2 voices - like 2 sets in one! Voice 1 is standard vintage Strat clean. Voice 2 is hot Texas voicing. These pickups are dead quiet! They also have built in treble bleed that maintains your critical high end when you turn down your volume. The rechargeable battery back plate gives you 250 hours of use from a 3 hour charge.

Removing Graph Tech saddles and reinstalling the original Fender stainless block saddles. While Graph Tech reduce string breakage and enhance midrange you do sacrifice some zing in the high end.
