Is your chicken coop ready for winter?🐓
Winter chicken care doesn’t have to be complicated, but a little preparation goes a long way!
Here in East Texas, we prepare for changing temperatures, cold snaps, rain, and those occasional freezing days.
Here are 6 things to check before winter arrives:
🏡 Keep bedding dry
🌬️ Maintain proper ventilation
💧 Make sure water stays clean and unfrozen
🌾 Provide a balanced feed
🐓 Watch for signs of cold stress
🔒 Check your coop and run for safety
One important reminder: healthy, acclimated adult chickens usually don’t need supplemental heat in a properly designed coop. Focus on keeping them dry, protected from direct drafts, and well cared for. If you use supplemental heat, take extra precautions against fire.
I’m sharing more of what we’ve learned raising chickens in our new Backyard Chickens Made Simple Guide, launching THIS FRIDAY! 🎉
