✨Vendor Spotlight: Nathaniel Williamson
Nathaniel is one of our regulars at the Abnormal Bazaar pop-ups, though if you’ve met him before, you probably know him as the quiet man steadily hammering old silverware into jewelry at his booth.
The last market, though, we got to talking.
Before he even got into his story, he laughed and warned me that the Williamsons are known for talking too much. “If you’re gonna talk to a Williamson,” he said, “bring a pillow and a blanket because you’re gonna be there all night.”
Originally from Virginia, Nathaniel moved to Gainesville with his wife after retiring from a long career as a social worker. He worked with families as a county caseworker, taught parenting and anger management classes, and spent years working with incarcerated populations helping inmates maintain relationships with their children and families.
His creative life goes back even further. One of his older brothers volunteered with the Boys Club teaching kids how to make wire rings and jewelry, and eventually Nathaniel became one of the helpers too. Later, he and his brother traveled the festival circuit selling handmade work together.
Today, Nathaniel transforms old silverware into rings, earrings, and bracelets, hammering, twisting, and reshaping each piece by hand. There’s something about his work that reminds me of the 70s — earthy forms, simple shapes, and handmade objects with history still inside them.
We hope you’ll come meet him at the next Abnormal Bazaar!
