A fallen log or pile of leaves can shelter an entire tiny world. With adult supervision, invite your little explorer to observe the soil, roots, moss, decaying leaves, tunnels, webs, and small animals living beneath.

Look closely with a magnifying glass, count the creatures you notice, and sketch the habitat in your nature journal. Record the weather, shade, moisture, and other clues—then gently return every leaf, rock, and log exactly as you found it. 🍂

This is an observation-only activity: never touch or collect wildlife, and never reach beneath an object.

🌼 Make a Nature Journal Collage!

Turn the tiny treasures from your next nature walk into a page of outdoor memories. Gather a few dry, fallen leaves and petals, then use the tweezers to arrange them inside your Foraged Moments journal.

Create a butterfly, tiny garden, seasonal pattern, nature rainbow, or a design of your own. Once you love the arrangement, use the glue dots to gently secure everything and add sketches, labels, the date, location, and weather. 🍃

Remember to use only dry, fallen materials, and leave your journal open until every piece is completely dry.

Take a slow walk together and see if your little explorer can find one natural treasure in every color. Look for fallen leaves, flower petals, feathers, acorns, pebbles, and other tiny wonders—then arrange your discoveries into a beautiful nature rainbow!

Choose fallen treasures whenever possible, or make it completely leave-no-trace by photographing each color instead. 🍃

Turn your next nature walk into a playful outdoor math lesson. Invite your little explorer to measure fallen leaves, sticks, pinecones, bark, and pebbles using fingers, hand spans, footsteps, or a small ruler.

Begin with a prediction—which object will be the longest, shortest, widest, or tallest? Then measure, record the results in the nature journal, and arrange the finds from smallest to largest. 🍃

For an extra challenge, measure one object in two different ways and talk about why the numbers aren’t the same!

Choose one special tree to visit throughout the year and watch its story unfold. Return around the same date each month, stand in the same spot, and notice what has changed—and what has stayed the same.

Look for new leaves, buds, flowers, seeds, bark patterns, visiting animals, shadows, and nearby plants. Photograph the tree from the same angle, sketch it in your nature journal, and record the weather, temperature, and season.

At the end of the year, arrange the pictures into a beautiful seasonal timeline! 🍂

Choose two safe nature finds—such as fallen leaves, seeds, pieces of bark, feathers, or pebbles—and place them side by side. Look closely with the magnifying glass and compare their color, size, shape, texture, pattern, weight, and number of parts.

Record what is similar and different in the nature journal, then sketch both specimens and label the details you noticed. This simple activity helps little explorers practice observation, comparison, critical thinking, and early science skills! 🍃

Letters are hiding everywhere—in curling vines, crossing sticks, forked branches, twisted roots, and even shadows. Bring along your Foraged Moments Nature Kit and see how many your little explorer can discover!

Photograph each letter or sketch it in the nature journal. Try finding the letters in your child’s name, spelling a nature word, or completing the whole alphabet. 🔤

Please leave attached vines, roots, and branches undisturbed. If you arrange loose sticks into a missing letter, return them when you’re finished.

Bring your Foraged Moments Nature Kit outside and search slowly for the smallest wonders nature has to offer—fallen seeds, petals, moss, bark, and tiny pebbles.

Children can use their tweezers to gently collect each treasure, examine it with the magnifying glass, and sort their finds by color, shape, size, or texture. Then choose one extra-tiny discovery for the test tube and sketch the favorites in a nature journal! 🍃

Please choose loose, fallen items, return living moss and tiny creatures, and never taste your finds.
