We’ve had this sign sitting in our shop for 10+ years.. empty.. so, I decided to start giving it some life. I’ve been putting some of my favorite lyrics/songs/artists .. I just change it out every couple of weeks.. no particular order.. it’s incredible that I’ve had the privilege to meet some of the writers of these lyrics due to this crazy, little, speaker business ! What are your favorite lyrics.. not necessarily on here, but songs that mean something to you ?? Music is life !!! ❤️

Just installed the Gray Wolf 10s in my Traynor. They absolutely crush the OG Marsland speakers. (They didn’t sound bad) So much more definition. Totally improved an already nice setup.” - Benny L

Our attenuators use rheostats to control the attenuation and distribute the power to the speaker motor or other load and the speaker. Rheostats are made of vitreous ceramic, nichrome wire (like your toaster), and are coated with a hard coat epoxy paint. Therefore, when new, rheostats can emit a slight smell and even a little smoke until the rheostats are aged. This is normal and not an issue. The smell and smoke will subside after two or three hours of use. Adhesives are also employed to mount certain heat dissipating devices in the enclosure. They too will emit a slight smell when new.

Attenuators aren’t the direct cause of failures, they just allow you to run your amp hard enough to be in the danger zone without the corresponding volume that would normally keep you from getting there. So it’s the fact that you’re running the amp hard that can cause tube failure. The attenuator just lets you get there.

Catastrophic power tube failure will cause transformer and screen grid resistor failures. The reason you will read and hear horror stories from un-knowledgeable attenuator users is because they do not understand how attenuators work and the stress they put on your tubes. If in fact, a player chooses to run his amp cranked all the way on and attenuate the volume down to a whisper, then in most cases power tubes will only go a few months. Power tubes will die in one of two ways. The first and most pleasant is by simply fading and dying. The second and more popular way is to go out in a blaze of glory - which is what I referred to above as a catastrophic failure which can, and most often will, take out screen grid resistors.

Tubes sound great when they are really working hard, but the harder you work them the faster they wear out. If you understand this and either use the attenuator sparingly or change your tubes regularly then your amp will not suffer damage.
