Recently, we have been making more of an effort to get out to shows and connect with our community here in Atlanta, and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences. The conversations we get to have with our customers who quickly become friends, have been both illuminating and inspiring at the same time. Say what you will, but Pokémon Riftbound and other TCGs truly are a community driven hobby and those who really care about the community are here to stay because they have love for each other, not just the cards.
Yesterday, one of our favorite customers turned friend, surprised me with an incredibly gracious gift that I could not accept, but he insisted. It all started with us just showing each other our binders and he had a Gengar I had been looking for and I mentioned I’m trying to find one while flipping through pages. Without hesitation he pulled it out of his binder and gave it to me. I thought he was just letting me get a closer look and then he told me to keep it. I couldn’t believe it. I tried to offer him money, I tried to offer a trade, and he insisted that it was a gift.
That wasn’t all…..
10 minutes later he came back with a friend and they were both excited to show Crystal and I the Kyogre and Groudon they had scooped up. This same friend of ours had traded his Bubble Mew so that him and his buddy could have a set of Kyogre/ Groudon slabs together.
To see someone so giving and so happy to bring their friends up around them in this hobby brings me an immense amount of joy and this is truly what this is about.
It’s not about your collection’s monetary value…. It’s about how much your collection brings you joy, how much the community brings you joy and continuing to be there for each other.
Crystal and I both got into this business because we believe in the community and the support it provides the people who are part of it. I think it’s time we share our story. We are feeling incredibly inspired right now, and we will find a way to pay it forward.
Thank you, Tony, you are a truly wonderful human being. This Gengar is now a centerpiece of my collection and will always hold sentimental value to me. Jae Nguyen
