Golf is a game I have always admired, not because of its prestige, tradition, or the fact that I grew up playing it, but because of my late grandfather.
He once promised to take me golfing with him and his friends. Yet his world moved according to strategy, urgency, and complications I was too young to understand. I was never blessed with the opportunity to stand beside him on the course or experience the unwavering passion he carried for the game beyond the moments we spent hitting a ball into a cup on the front porch.
Those moments may have appeared insignificant to others, but time has taught me that some of our smallest memories become the most sacred.
Today, every step I take across the fairway carries a piece of that unfulfilled promise. I cannot recover the opportunity we lost, but I can honor the meaning it left behind.
Success, to me, is not measured by the wealth I obtain, the beneficial relationships I establish through networking, or the influence I amass. Success begins with standing upon my word. More importantly, it is building a legacy strong enough for my family and the generations that follow to walk a path of greater stability without having to cross the same difficult roads I traveled to become the man I am today.
True success is not merely escaping the conditions that once confined us. It is ensuring that those who come after us inherit the wisdom, structure, and opportunities we were forced to acquire through struggle.
The greatest achievement is not how far we rise. It is how much easier we make the climb for those coming behind us.
