Why hiring a PRO can be an ultimately better value:
Customer’s ice maker doesn’t work.

Tech FINDS ACTUAL PROBLEM (some broken wires)
Wires repaired - ice maker works again!
Customer satisfied that they saved time and money not just throwing a new icemaker at it.

This doesn’t only apply to ice makers.

“My dryer isn’t heating. Can you just change the heating element?”

No, because there are SEVERAL other reasons why a dryer won’t heat.

And don’t get me started on “I think it just needs a shot of Freon” 😑

Don’t YOU do it
Don’t let any appliance tech do it either!
Always ask if your tech is using a genuine OEM part for your repair (I always do!)
Yes you will pay more.
But your repair will last FAR longer
The heating element I pulled out of this unit only lasted 2 years. The stamping looked different than the stamping on the new OEM heater I put in.
It also broke ugly and shorted itself to the heater housing. This can also blow a thermal fuse (more $) and roast your clothes!

Doesn’t matter how short your vent piping is. Complete clogs can still happen! This one was caused by a birds nest on the other side

I understand budgets can be tight and the only option for you is to make a repair yourself. A new part's cost might clean out the rest of your savings - or whatever part you need is discontinued and no longer available new.
Don't give up yet! There's still hope in the form of quality used parts.
Used parts naturally come with a smaller price tag, and you also may chance upon that hard-to-find discontinued part.

Customer complaint: Doesn’t heat and timer wouldn’t advance. Said they already had a new heating element on hand to put in.

NO NEED! Simple broken wire. New, tightly crimped terminal on clean copper solved this problem!
