This week’s is a Kona Smoke, a steel-frame mountain bike that’s around 25 years old and still has plenty of life left in it.

We gave it a modern 1x9 drivetrain, Vittoria Mezcal tires, and upright bars for a more comfortable riding position. A classic bike with a few updates that make it a total ripper for riding around town or hitting the trails.

A great ride starts with having the right gear. 🚵‍♀️ A huge thank you to 100% for donating high-quality gear to our mountain bike team! Your support helps our riders show up with the equipment they need to ride, race, and grow with confidence.

Mountain biking can come with a lot of barriers to entry, from the cost of a bike and equipment to access to trails and transportation. Partnerships like this help make the sport more accessible and create opportunities for more young people to experience everything riding has to offer.

Happy ! Meet the Watermelon Bike 🍉 This single-speed/fixed-gear build keeps things simple while still packing plenty of punch. With a 48T/17T gear ratio, it’s set up to find that sweet spot between speed on the flats and enough climbing power to handle Atlanta’s hills. Simple, quick, and ready to roll!

This week’s is a mid-late ’90s GT Tempest, transformed from a rigid mountain bike into a comfortable, everyday commuter.

Built around an L–XL frame, we kept the original groupset while swapping the knobby tires for ThickSlick tires to create a faster, smoother ride on pavement. Upright sweeper bars add a more relaxed riding position, and matching cable housing ties the whole build together with a clean, custom finish.

A vintage mountain bike with a modern city mindset - ready for commutes, errands, and weekend rides alike.

Over the past eight weeks, our interns built more than bikes. They built confidence, career skills, and a clearer picture of what their futures can look like.
