About This Piano
This gorgeous Kawai US-50 Professional Upright Piano has been fully restored and rebuilt by Doremi Musical Instrument Co. in Hamamatsu, Japan, the home of Yamaha and Kawai pianos, bringing this instrument to like-new condition. It has a balanced, responsive touch, and that warm, rich Kawai sound that we love.
In the early 1900's, a teenage Koichi Kawai had a next door neighbor by the name of Torakusu Yamaha, the very same Yamaha who founded Yamaha Pianos. After Yamaha recognized his mechanical genius after Kawai built a pedal-powered cart, he took Kawai on as an apprentice.
Kawai ended up becoming a core member of Yamaha's R&D team. While working for Yamaha, Kawai built Japan's first completely domestic piano action. Before his invention, Yamaha had to import these complex parts from Germany or America.
Shortly after Yamaha passed away, Kawai left the company and decided to start his own. Over a hundred years later, this friendly neighborhood rivalry continues between two of the greatest piano manufacturers of the century.
About the Rebuilder
Doremi Musical Instrument Co. is a Japanese company based in Hamamatsu, Japan, specializing in acquiring and fully restoring top-of-the-line Japanese pianos, including Yamaha and Kawai.
Founded in 1947 as a piano bass wire manufacturer, Doremi expanded into piano restoration in the late 1970s and began exporting fully reconditioned pianos internationally in the 1990s.
Their team includes experienced technicians, many of whom are retirees from major Japanese piano manufacturing lines.
Their expertise and craftsmanship have earned Doremi a strong reputation for authentic, high-quality restorations of Japanese pianos.
