Nothing ruins a custom tote bag faster than skipping the pre-wash, only to watch raw cotton duck canvas shrink nearly 12% in length and buckle your brand-new zipper into a wavy mess. 🤦

On our cutting floor at Canvas ETC, we keep dyed canvas looking spotless by overlocking raw cut ends, folding dry yardage like a 14-inch paper fan into loose accordion pleats, and running a warm 105°F wash with spin speed capped at 400 RPM to stop white marble crazing lines before they ever start. 🌊

Pull the yardage diagonal on the bias while it is still 15% damp, square up your grain on the cutting table, and multiply your pattern length by 1.12 so you never run short of yardage when the steam iron hits the cotton. ✂️

Measure twice, calculate your yardage buffer, and read our complete shop guide before your shears touch raw yardage - https://www.canvasetc.com/how-to-wash-and-preshrink-duck-canvas/

Tell us what you make, how often you make it, and where fabric creates friction in the process. At Canvas ETC, we approach wholesale orders as an ongoing production need, not simply a larger shopping cart.

Labor Day honors the work, grit, and hands that build something lasting. Behind every yard of canvas leaving our warehouse is a team that measures, cuts, rolls, and ships day in and day out.

From heavy-duty duck fabric to breathable cotton blends, none of it reaches your workshops without their dedication. Today, our machines are off, our cutting tables are clear, and our team is taking a well-earned break.

Happy Labor Day to everyone who puts in the work! What projects are you taking a break from today? Let us know below. 👇
