“Them two are on a big cattle drive. With two dogs they stole.”

Text and photos from my father in law, Keith’s stepdad Mayoe, yesterday afternoon as Gramma Beth and Carson moved our purebred pairs from the James Place down to our property. I could just hear these words coming from Mayoe’s mouth as I read them - he’s full of humor and one of the easiest people you could ever spend time with. Montana is his favorite state (he was born there) and I know he would’ve happily followed behind these two on the side-by-side all day long.

The dogs? Nope, not ours.😂 But they look willing to help with the job. And that red barn in the distance, that’s our place. I haven’t come up with a single reference name yet. It’s known as the Old Lannen Place, and also the Lund Place (the folks we bought it from). Maybe eventually it’ll earn the Rocking Bar H name - we’ll see.😉

I was getting ready to tell you of all the things I love about August, when I realized that we welcome the month of September today. Yes, it’s still summer, but the changing of seasons is in the air.

Our summer months are so full; the work days are long, & the older our boys have become, I can see that “make hay while the sun shines” was engrained into them, no matter what they’re doing. I notice other people soaking up the relaxed days of summer, wishing they’d stay forever, & for as many years as I can recall now, our summer months have been wonderful for different reasons. It’s more a time of opportunity & growth, long days & short nights, & as the darkness comes a little earlier with each passing day, I’m thankful for the abundance of summer while being ready for the rest that is to come. Morning sun streaming in a little later. Dinners at dinnertime. Bed at bedtime.

It’s so remarkable to think of how God allows us to experience His seasons in different ways. Summer is beautiful to you & your family for different reasons than it is for ours. I think that’s part of the beauty of this life - that none of us live it quite the same. God gives each season its own work & its own gifts through our eyes.

I’m thankful for all that summer has given us, & just as thankful that He never asks us to stay in one season forever. There is goodness in the changing, too.❤️

Thank you, Emma Lou Productions | Washington photographer, for the great pics of the guys roping at King County Fair’s first team roping round robin! It was so much fun to watch! Carson had a good day, winning Champion Heeler at the event.🤠

Just some of my favorite people, places & things as we’ve bounced back-and-forth between Washington and Montana this summer.☀️ It really is a beautiful life if you look for it and you believe it to be true.

“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬

I LOVE this reminder.⬆️ I need it everyday, because the busy-ness of life can fill my head so much that I forget to enjoy and be thankful for it all.❤️

In the words of Alan Jackson,
“Go heavy on the good & light on the bad,
A hair more happy & a shade less sad.”

More gratitude. More seeing the good. More soaking up the moments we’ve been given. That’d be alright.❤️

Hi, friends! We have Rocking Bar H beef shares available in Washington if you're looking to stock up on excellent beef! There's nothing like having a freezer full of healthy beef - it saves many trips to the grocery store and answers the frequently asked question of "what's for dinner". :)

This beef is finished on organic grain on our ranch in Washington. You can choose from a quarter, half, or whole beef. [If you have interested in an eighth, let us know and we may be able to accommodate.]

Local pickup (and delivery for a small fee) is available on the Enumclaw plateau. We do not ship beef. Let us know if you're interested and we'll send you all the details. If you have friends or family looking for beef, we'd be so thankful to have you pass this info on to them!
