It’s not every day that a box of sheet music turns into a history lesson—and this particular collection feels especially meaningful to our family.

We recently received this fascinating assortment of vintage sheet music, filled with beautifully illustrated covers, patriotic songs, early blues and music reflecting what was happening in America at the time.

But our favorite discovery may be in the second photo. Printed alongside the music is a World War I-era message:

“DO YOUR BIT — HELP WIN THE WAR”

It encouraged American families to eat more fish, cheese, eggs and poultry while saving beef, pork and mutton for the soldiers. Sheet music wasn’t simply bringing music into people’s homes—it was also helping carry important wartime messages.

Seeing this piece sitting here at Turner’s makes the discovery feel incredibly full-circle. My Granddad, Edward B. Turner Sr., served our country as a fighter pilot during World War II. After the war, he and my Grandmother built a life together and founded Turner’s Keyboards in 1955.

Now, more than 70 years later, this wartime sheet music has found its way into the very store they created, thanks to a thoughtful gift from one of our customers.

Pieces like these are so much more than old songs. They are little time capsules filled with music, art, sacrifice and American history—and this one feels as though a small piece of our own family’s history has found its way home.

Stop by Turner’s Keyboards and take a closer look through this incredible collection. Which cover catches your eye first?

Have you ever wondered what actually happens inside a grand piano when you press the sustain pedal? 🎹

The sustain pedal does much more than simply make the notes last longer. When it is pressed, the dampers lift away from the strings, allowing the notes to continue ringing—and giving the other strings an opportunity to resonate along with them.

This quick video gives you a fascinating look inside the piano so you can see the entire process in action!

It’s amazing how much is happening beneath the surface every time a pianist presses a single pedal.

What a wonderful morning at Turner’s Keyboards! 🎹

Today, we welcomed local piano teachers for a special workshop led by Dr. Linda Christensen, a Roland Education Specialist. Dr. Christensen shared creative ways to integrate apps and technology into music lessons, demonstrated features of the Roland LX-6 Digital Piano, and introduced interactive tools that can make learning more engaging and fun for students.

A special thank-you to Dr. Christensen for sharing her expertise with us—and to all the wonderful teachers who joined us this morning! We love bringing our local music educators together and providing new resources to help inspire the next generation of musicians. ❤️🎶

🎹 The pursuit of excellence never stops.

When someone sits down at a concert grand piano, they experience a seamless connection between their hands and the music. What they don't see are the thousands of precisely engineered parts working together to make that moment possible.

This week, our Steinway-trained technician, Joel Wilkinson, RPT, had the privilege of spending time with Anne Garee, RPT, Director of Piano Technology at Florida State University College of Music, working on one of our Steinway Model D concert grands.

Together, they installed a new set of Steinway hammers while carefully evaluating, measuring, regulating, and refining the piano's action. It's meticulous work that most people never see, but it has an incredible impact on how a concert grand responds to a pianist's touch and ultimately brings music to life.

Did you know? Piano hammers are the only part of the instrument that actually strike the strings. Their shape, weight, density, and voicing all influence the piano's tone, responsiveness, and dynamic range. Even the smallest adjustments can make an extraordinary difference.

Reflecting on the experience, Joel shared:

"Without Anne's 50 years of experience, I would have missed three major pitfalls. I now have such an awareness of the inner workings of this instrument."

We're incredibly grateful to Anne for so generously sharing her knowledge and expertise. Learning from master craftsmen is invaluable, and opportunities like this allow us to continue growing in our profession.

At Turner's Keyboards, we believe the best technicians never stop learning. By investing in continuing education, we're able to provide the highest level of care for every instrument entrusted to us—from a family's first piano to a concert grand on the world's greatest stages.

Because behind every beautiful performance is a piano that has been prepared with care. ❤️🎹

🎹 You're never too young... or too old... to learn something new.

One of our favorite things about Turner's is hearing music come from every lesson room throughout the day.

Some students are taking their very first lesson.

Some are checking "learn to play the piano" off their bucket list after retirement.

Some are preparing for competitions, while others simply play because it brings them joy.

No matter your age or experience, we believe everyone deserves a place where learning music feels encouraging, comfortable, and fun.

That's why we've created lesson studios that feel more like home than a classroom—and why our teachers meet each student where they are.

Whether you're 5 or 85, we'd love to be part of your musical journey. ❤️

Thinking about piano lessons? We'd love to help you find the right teacher for you or your child. Send us a message or give us a call—we're always happy to help!
